BASEveg
BASEveg is a python package that couples a river hydro-morphodynamic simulator (BASEMENT) with a model for vegetation dynamics.
River morphodynamics is widely recognized to be controlled by complex feedbacks between water flow, sediment, and riparian vegetation. By changing the flow field, plants can significantly modify the sediment transport rate and create distinct morphological patterns. To better predict river morphological trajectories in the face of changing flow and sediment regimes, it is key to describe and quantify these feedbacks. BASEveg provides a platform to perform 2D hydro- morphodynamic simulations including the main feedbacks between flow, sediment transport, and vegetation.
Download and Use
BASEveg code is available under GNU GPv3 license on GitLAB. It requires BASEMENT v3.2 (or higher) to be installed and Python v3.x. The detailed steps to run the model can be found in the code repository.
Documentation
A reference manual and a tutorial can be found in the repository Wiki.
Acknowledgments
This software has been developed at VAW, ETH Zurich. The code implementation has been funded by the BASEMENT software project. Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) (grant external page 159813) is greatly acknowledged for supporting the model development.
